Our Assessment: At the end of WWII, the Walther plant was under control of American forces, but when the East/West zones were created, the plant found itself in the Eastern zone, and the machinery was confiscated by the Russians. Fritz Walther had moved west while he still had a chance, and took his drawings with him. He then contacted the French firm of Manufacture De Machines Du Haut Rhin to make PP and PPK pistols under his license. Manurhin made and assembled PP and PPK pistols under their name, and later made the slides and frames of guns assembled by Walther in W. Germany and marked with the Walther logo. Manurhin made the pistols from 1952 to 1984, in 1978, Interarms started manufacturing them for sale in the United States, and later they were made by Smith & Wesson. It is interesting that all the Manurhin made PP’s are on the C&R list, regardless of when they were made, but none of the others. This Manurhin PP was made in the 1971 and has French proof marks as well as import marks. It is in about Fine Plus condition with about 97% of its original finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. The pistol comes with its factory box, 3 magazines, a cleaning rod and paperwork. This is a nice-looking pistol that would make a nice carry pistol with a double action first shot.
